The Royal Victoria Hall  was the first municipal theatre built in
England under the Local Government Act 1894. It was erected to commemorate the Diamond
Jubilee of Queen Victoria and was opened in 1900. The original cost of the building was
£5,000, towards which the late Sir David Salomons, a local landowner, contributed
£3,000.
                       

In 1974 during Local Government reorganisation in
England and Wales under the Local Government Act 1972 the ownership and management of the
hall reverted to Southborough Town Council from the Southborough Urban District
Council.
 
The
Royal Victoria Hall is available for hire for public meetings, exhibitions, stage plays,
dances and other social functions throughout the year.
