Harlow Playhouse is a leading theatre venue providing a wide range of entertainment to the people of Harlow, West Essex and East Hertfordshire.
The Playhouse consists of a 411 seat Main Auditorium (proscenium style), a 120 seat Studio Theatre (thrust style), two class/rehearsal studios, and a foyer bar.
Harlow Playhouse was opened in 1971 following a community campaign for a theatre facility in the town, and has been operated as a service of Harlow Council since 1996.
The Playhouse continues to be a highly popular service within Harlow, but is also increasingly popular with visitors from the surrounding region.
Harlow Playhouse presents two seasons of entertainment per year – an Autumn/ Winter season which runs from September through to January; and a Spring/ Summer season which runs from February to July.
The Playhouse presents as wide a range of entertainment as possible, including drama, music, comedy, dance and family productions.
Harlow Playhouse is an important resource for large numbers of performing arts groups and businesses. As well as the many groups who regularly perform at the Playhouse, there are also six resident groups who hold classes/rehearsals on a daily/weekly basis.
The theatre also provides volunteer opportunities for the Harlow community, and has a popular membership scheme – Harlow Playhouse Supporters.
