On October 7, 1996, the Weill Center Foundation, Inc, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3)
corporation, was established and became the single significant driving force in the
preservation and restoration of the Sheboygan Theater.

With a $100,000 gift
from community philanthropist Walter Brand, the Foundation was able to acquire the
Sheboygan Theater property in December, 1996 for $50,000 – well below the assessed
value. The remaining gifted funds defrayed the cost of repairing the theater's roof. The
Foundation spent the next years restoring and renovating the historic theater.
