Créé en 1999 à Montréal sous la direction artistique d’Alain Thibault, ELEKTRA est un festival international d'art numérique. En invitant des artistes provenant de diverses pratiques − performance, art sonore et visuel, robotique –, ELEKTRA présente, dans une perspective expérimentale, les diverses déclinaisons de l’union de l’image et du son. Depuis 2007, ELEKTRA développe un volet professionnel : le Marché international de l’art numérique [MIAN], réunissant chaque année pendant le festival les acteurs majeurs de la scène numérique afin de stimuler la présence internationale des artistes québécois et canadiens et d’encourager de nouvelles collaborations. En plus des évènements ponctuels au Québec et à l’international, ELEKTRA présente depuis 2012, en collaboration avec les galeries et institutions muséales montréalaises, un volet exposition et art public : la Biennale internationale d'art numérique [BIAN].

Created in 1999 in Montreal under the artistic direction of Alain Thibault, ELEKTRA is an international digital arts festival. Playing host to artists representing different practices − performance, sound and visual arts, robotics – ELEKTRA presents experimental unions of sound and image in all their forms. In 2007, ELEKTRA developed a professional stream, the International Marketplace for Digital Arts [IMDA], which annually brings together during the festival major players on the digital arts scene to stimulate the international presence of Quebec and Canadian artists and encourage new collaborations. In addition to creating one-off events in Quebec and around the world, since 2012 ELEKTRA has worked with Montreal galleries and museums to present a public exhibition and art component: the International Digital Arts Biennial [BIAN].
