About

One
of the finest Victorian Provincial Theatres designed by Henry Currey and
opened
in June 1884. It was much improved by the celebrated Theatre Architect
Frank
Matcham in 1903. The main elevation is flanked by two handsome Italiante
towers.
The inside of the building is very ornate and must be one of the best
examples
of small Victorian Theatre in the country. The walls and ceiling of the
main
auditorium are covered in decorative plaster work with scrolls and caryatids
by
Schmidt of Holloway and it has been faithfully decorated in recent years.
