About

The North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie is a
dynamic two-theater complex. The North Shore Center opened in November 1996 to operate as
part of the Village of Skokie’s plan to provide cultural, literary and educational
programs to benefit the citizens of Skokie and Chicago’s North Shore. The facility
features an 867-seat main theater, and a convertible 342-seat theater. In addition, there
is a 6,000 square foot grand lobby, rehearsal hall and conference rooms. The NSCPAS
presents a Feature Series and the curriculum-based Youtheatre program, which has provided
supplemental arts education to over a million Chicago area students.

class="contentgreen">The state-of-the-art, award-winning North Shore Center was designed
by Boston-based architect Graham Gund. It is owned by the Centre East Metropolitan
Exposition Auditorium and Office Building Authority and is managed by Professional
Facilities Management, Inc. In addition to a diverse programming event calendar, its
proximity to Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center, a wide range of excellent restaurants
and plenty of free parking, make the North Shore Center a convenient and popular
destination for entertainment.

In addition to the Feature
Series, Youtheatre and hosting the annual Showcase trade show for performers for young
audiences, the North Shore Center is home to a variety of diverse rental programming and
distinct resident companies: the producing theater company Northlight Theatre, and the
Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra. The facility is also the performance home to the
acclaimed Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra and numerous other cultural organizations and
special rental events each year.

Since its opening, the
North Shore Center has hosted performances by Lewis Black, The Capitol Steps, Bill Cosby,
Kathy Griffin, Joffrey Ballet, Queen Latifah, Bill Maher, Rita Moreno, Bob Newhart, Paula
Poundstone, Neil Sedaka, Mavis Staples, Twyla Tharp Dance Company, and many more.
