About

The Hudson Village Theatre was founded in 1993, as a professional English language performing arts venue and theatre company offering a diverse selection of year-round programs that, through excellence, aim to inspire, enlighten and entertain. It is housed in Hudson’s historic train station in the heart of this delightful village located on the south shore of the Lake of Two Mountains.

On June 23rd, 2011 The Hudson Village Theatre opened its 19th Season of Professional Theatre .

In 1993 the theatre made its debut to audiences under a large tent next to the parking lot of Mon Village Restaurant with its debut production of Sacred Hearts by Colleen Curran. The years 1994 - 1999 brought first rate theatrical productions to the region along with the challenges of rain, thunder and insects! In 2000, the theatre's founder, Heather Markgraf-Lowe embarked on a capital campaign to raise funds to renovate the Hudson train station as a theatre. Once complete, the transformed space proved very comfortable for its patrons who now enjoy a full range of productions by some of Canada's most prominent award-winning playwrights.

In 2004, Andrew Johnston became Artistic Director and under his creative leadership, the theatre has brought and continues to bring professional theatrical productions, comedy duos, concerts, community productions, film presentations of Opera and Ballet and fundraising events. In keeping with Ms. Markgraf-Lowe's tradition, the Christmas (British) Pantomine continues to delight audiences of all ages.

In 2006, the Hudson Film Society was born and through this partnership, the theatre is now equipped with a high definition video projector and a movie screen that descends from the ceiling. This very successful film initiative, within the theatre’s family, now in its fourth sold out season, gives the theatre the capability to bring yet another exciting arts experience. In March 2009, Hudson Village Opera and Hudson Village Ballet was launched. The series originates from world famous Opera Houses and other great theatres and concert halls in Europe and North America and is shown on the theatre's big screen in high definition.

The 2011 -2012 Opera season has now been posted and tickets are available online or through the box office.

In 2011 Hudson Village Theatre celebrates its 19th season.
Four professionally acted plays will be taking place this season; Fly Fisher's Companion by Michael Melski - Wingfield on Ice by Dan Needles- Sckin Flick by Norm Foster and Haunted by Paul Van Dyck . The ever so popular Christmas Panto will return with the fractured tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The Film society will also be back and the theatre will host a number of community events and galas...all in all SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!.

Hudson Village Theatre is a charming 148 seat fully air-conditioned theatre which still looks like (and serves as) a train station but with an interior that has been amazingly transformed. The lobby bar and box office is in the old baggage room and the theatre, serving patrons year round, has excellent sight lines and acoustics. Treat yourself to a great afternoon or evening of professional theatre, concerts, film nights, opera, ballet, children’s productions, community events and more. Free parking and wheelchair accessible.

Hudson Village Theatre is a first place winner in the category of Exceptional Community Involvement at the West Island Chamber of Commerce annual Gala des Accolades in 2006 was a finalist in the 7 Merveilles de Vaudreuil-Soulanges competition in the category of Ambassador of the Region.
